Coffee is a lot more than just a drink; it’s something happening. Like an event, like a place to be, but not like a location, but like somewhere within yourself. It gives you time, but not actual hours or minutes, but a chance to be, like be yourself, and have a second cup. Coffee is a language in itself. Let’s take a moment to thank this ubiquitous caffeine beverage that is currently sitting beside our infinite drawings boards, sheets and laptops around this whole wide world. however, the question is why are we so partial to coffee? Let’s take a closer perspective. First, coffee is that wonderful drink that gives us an initiative. It’s the reason why most of us need a cup to get going in the morning. Nevertheless, it kicks starts our brain. Designing spaces that employees look forward to visiting increases the chance for creative collisions and “the best-case scenario when people run into each other is that brilliant conversations spark, resulting in innovative solutions”. Fuelled by WIFI and caffeine, creative potential thrives in physical environments that re-energize, inspire, and support a variety of work functions and styles. In my experience as an architecture student, coffee is a surprisingly big topic of conversation, often cited as a perk or point of anxiety. Especially during mergers and acquisitions, disparate organizations have unique standards for coffee cost, quality, and culture. The next comes the ‘commitment’. As we all know, the famous cafeteria CCD quotes… “A lot can happen over coffee” … Yes, coffee creates commitment. It boosts our persistence need to work on many projects and reduces the chance that we will give up before we hit upon the best solution.
