Hotel West Marret

Named after the road it stands on today, this is a 20 key boutique hotel nestled in the busiest part of Madurai, Tamilnadu.
The hotel is a part of the 70 year old very well known heritage building called New College house. The Part inherited by our client was 3 floors of party halls. The biggest challenge was to work out the rooms in the existing floor plate along with the toilets for the rooms, services without disturbing the existing structure as it required special permission from the corporation (since it came under the heritage building category).Since the structures were old the design and the details had to be worked around the structural upliftment of the building.
The hotel has 8 Deluxe room of 395 Sq.ft and 12 standard rooms 265 Sq.ft .Unlike other hotels ,the guests are welcomed in a small gallery space at the ground floor level, where there is display of the old college house furniture and artifacts for the old charm. The reception and the lobby are at the first level where the guests are checked in. Highlight of the space planning is a 7 feet wide corridor space which gives the space an open feel. Another feature is a small café space created in the first floor with some landscape and natural lighting.
The décor of the hotel is a tasteful mix between the modern and traditional elements of Chettinad.
